Waist back pain: How long have u had it ? Any other issues like pain when u urinate , fever , chills ,  other medical diagnosis? Without a history of an injury we think of internal organs . If your pain persists u should be checked

Exam needed: If your symptoms haven't completely resolved, an examination by a physician is needed to check for appendicitis or kidney pathology such as  stones. Going to the hospital emergency room, where prompt testing can be done, is recommended.

Kidneys?: The region you describe is the left kidney.  If were a kidney stone you would likely have commented on a very intense pain.  Fever and feeling sick would be aroused by kidney infection.  Again the pain can be severe and induce an er visit.  You probably have a back muscle strain and spasm.

Possible renal colic: Sharp lower back pain that comes and goes could represent renal colic from kidney stones, especially if the pain moves into the groin. Kidney stones can be extremely painful and quite serious if they block the flow of urine out of the kidney, so this situation requires doctor review urgently, especially if the pain persists/becomes more frequent. Drink plenty of water and see your doc.

Many Possibilities: Depending on how long it's been going on, i would consider an evaluation by a spine specialist.  Sometimes it could be a muscle imbalance, early onset arthritis or scoliosis.  Also could be a pinched nerve/herniated disc.  Either way it might be good to figure it out and get appropriate treatment.
