Crutches: It sounds like you think the new pain is related to the recent use of crutches.  You don't describe the pain with any detail at all.    It sounds to me like you should be evaluated.

I would recommend seeing your doc again and express your concern--he/she may send you for xray/mri, pt, add/change med, or send you to a specialist for additional eval/treatment. Best of luck.

on more than one occasion when i take a deep breath or bend over my lower left chest near the ribs starts to hurt. i have gerd and i may have an ulcer. same with the back middle left side of back. hurts when i take a deep breath?

: These symptoms are more characteristic of musculoskeletal or rib cage cause than with GERD or peptic ulcer. You don't seem to have any lung symptoms. A pinched intercostal nerve or muscle that runs between 2 ribs causes rather severe, sharp,fleeting chest or upper back pain on a deep breath. These tend to resolve on their own, but if symptoms persist see your MD for examination, testing &amp; advice

Very Vague Symptom: Back pain can have many causes.  Higher up in the rib cage can be related to lungs or muscles and bones; moving downward the kidney, pancreas and spleen become possibilities.  Lower down toward the hip can be muscles as well as colon(diverticulitis).
This is not a comprehensive list, and without additional information a guess would be as good as an expert opinion.  Get seen if it continues.

Muscle strain: At 17 yo you are unlikely to have a serious problem with your low back. It is most likely a muscle strain or pull. Try alternating ice and heat and gentle stretches. An antiinflammatory like advil (ibuprofen) may also help. If the pain does not go away in a week or so see your doctor.
