Pain upper thigh: Most likely musculoskeletal. If not getting better  in three weeks you should see a doctor. Upper outer thigh pain sometimes can be from bursitis.

Overuse: This would be a rare location for a blood clot.  It sounds more like an overuse problem--you started running too hard too fast or a strain from an abnormal gait or footwear

Get checked: Do you have severe low back pain, leg weakness, sensation changes  your bowel or bladder, numbness in your sit areas, problems holding your urine or stool or sexual dysfunction? I so, you may have a potentially serious condition in the lower spine - cauda equina syndrome. Do see your clinician in any case for evaluation &amp; treatment. Meanwhile, you can take acetaminophen or an NSAID for relief.

Bursa inflammation: I assume the pain you have is in your left upper thigh. You should see a doctor for a precise evaluation. Based on your description, a possible diagnosis is trochanteric bursitis which is an inflammation of the bursa lying over the upper part of your thigh bone. Unless contraindicated for you, Motrin may help. If not see a pain physician who can perform a very simple injection.

Strained hip flexor : it could be that you've strained a hip flexor muscle and with ice, rest and a short course of physical therapy you should improve if a tincture of time doesn't work.

How long does it last?  
Medication helps/worsens?
 If you think it is something you eat/drink/do stop it &amp; see. If better, go back again &amp; retest until u r convinced it is something u should stop. Then stop it.

Discuss with your Drs. You all will figure it out.
