i'm a 66 year-old woman having sharp, throbbing pain in my left shin, along the inside & mostly midway down. some areas are very sensitive to touch. ?

Not a question: Any injury?  If not, you can apply some heat and gently massage the area.  This could be as simple as shin splints.  However, if there was an injury or it doesn't go away quickly or if you develop redness, swelling, or a feeling of heat there, you should be seen for several possible conditions more dangerous than muscle pain. See doc: Possible causes include vascular insufficiency and peripheral neuropathy.  See your primary care doctor to begin the evaluation. This is not likely to get better without treatment, and may get worse.

Injury?: Did you bump it?  Very common to get soreness in this area from even a minor trauma as there isn't much padding here.  Also could be from muscle strain, shin splints which are like a ligament strain of the leg muscle, insect bite or other process.  If it continues/worsens, see your doc.  Good luck!

i have had pain in my left leg for more than a month now. aching pain as well as some shooting pain. it only occurs at night. many times in my groin and can be simultaneously in the top of my leg, my shin and even on top of my foot. please advise?

PVD.: Peripheral vascular disease? More history is required to make a sound assessment. Are you a smoker? For how long? You need to see your doctor for comprehensive history taking and examination as well as some investigations like a lipogram and Doppler studies

Erythema nodosum?: If the spots are firm and painful, it could be a condition called erythema nodosum, which is an inflammation of the fat underneath the skin. There are many causes, but the most common is a sore throat or other infection. If this is a possibility, you should see your doctor or a dermatologist to determine the underlying cause.

Need more info -: This can caused by many things. Does it wake you from sleep? Is it shooting, stabbing, or cramping pain? Sometimes the localized pains stems from areas above your shin, like your back/spine. There could be, some positional issues as in contortions of your leg. May be clotting disorder to be ruled out, or a metabolic condition. No mention of excessive, activities. Need more information.

One option: Acupuncture is an excellent option for treating pain due to sciata. However, it is very important to see your physician to determine the cause of the sciatica and to determine if that can be addressed directly. Good luck.

Shin splints likely: Shin splints (tibial stress reaction or stress fracture) result from overuse. This can be with regards to varibles of excessive running intensity, excessive mileage or duration. The first line treatment is to limit the most likely causative variable, allow more rest, ice, and nsaids, nd evn iimaging is indicated when symptoms fail to resolve within a week or so of implementing controls on activity.

Splint: Could be splint. Rest, heat & ace bandage.

what to do if i am 23 and have just found that i have two osteochondromas in my left shin. am i likely to have surgery?

Accepted Answer

Depends on a number: Of factors, like the size of these osteochondromas, their exact locations, any symptoms associated with these lesions, like any pressure on adjacent structures.
Xrays/ct scans maybe needed.
See an orthopod to get treatment options outlined for you, depending on your symptoms.
Some of these can be just watched, others might require surgical removal.
