Erythema nodosum?: If the spots are firm and painful, it could be a condition called erythema nodosum, which is an inflammation of the fat underneath the skin. There are many causes, but the most common is a sore throat or other infection. If this is a possibility, you should see your doctor or a dermatologist to determine the underlying cause.
