If the pain persists or does not move over time, consider other causes such as renal stones, injury, atypical appendicitis (rarely left sided pain) , pancreatitis, and many other rarer conditions.  For now apply warm pack and allow him to try to have a bowel movement to see if it alleviates the pain .

If severe, get help: There ae lots of things in your abdomen. On left side is colon, kidney, intestines, spleen, testicle. In some kids the appendix is over on the left side (right side more common), his guts could be twisted inside themselves. If he is in severe pain, made worse by movement, this may be an emergency, or something very simple like constipation. But severe abdominal pain always needs evaluation, now!

Colon To Semicolon?: You should think about Diverticulitis or a Ureteral Stone. Obviously much more information is needed but those are probably the biggies.
