Go to MD: Pain in the right upper quadrant can be from several things: liver, lungs, ribs, stomach kidney in the back, gallbladder, pancreas intestine or other referred pain. It is best to have it evaluated and the proper test done to find out what is wrong.

Liver pain: The liver usually doesn't her per se, as it lacks nerve endings. The gallbladder and biliary ducts are the ones in that area that are likely to hurt. Not sure what tests/studies were done to confirm no cause for the pain in that area. Occasionally there may be referred pain from the stomach or large intestine or even lower lung lobe, which may be evident on thorough history and physical.

RUQ anatomy: Anatomically, the right upper quadrant (RUQ) of the abdomen includes: liver, gallbladder, pancreatic head, bile ducts and ampulla, c-loop of the duodenum, stomach antrum and pylorus, the hepatic flexure of the colon.  Don't forget the diaphragm and lower chest are pretty close by. The abdominal musculature, ribs, and skin can all contribute as well to localizing RUQ pain. An exam is appropriate.

Good thought: It could be related but usually complications are pretty soon after surgery, not years. It could be a hernia from one of the incisions as well.  Having someone look at it and possibly an ultrasound of the liver area might be a good start. This far out, however, it is more likely to be unrelated.

More info?: Why do you think its your liver or gallbladder?  Have you been seen?  If it is you can try to avoid the food "triggers" such as high fat or fried foods.  Sometimes this with exercise and weight loss is enough to avoid attacks.  Most people eventually need surgery to remove the gallbladder.  Its a very common surgery.

Make sure : Your hepatitis is getting better, and not worse.  Usually hepatitis a is self limited, but some cases can progress to more serious form.  Get blood tests periodically to make sure you are improving.

Often when a person: experiences pain in the right upper quadrant/RUQ of the abdomen one is tempted to say it is liver pain...the liver is the largest organ in that part of the body. Pain in the RUQ can come from the skin/muscles of the abdominal wall (shingles, muscle strain), inflammation of abdom lining (peritonitis), organs (add gall bladder, colon, kidney) or "referred" from lung, ribs

Go see doctor : It is possible. You should go see your doctor. If you have not been seen by liver specialist, you should see them. Make sure you don't have uncontrolled bleeding or change in mental status, etc.

RUQ pain: I could certainly be inflammation of the liver.  The capsule that surrounds the liver when stretched can give a feeling of fullness or discomfort.  The gallbladder can often give similar symptoms.  You should get an ultrasound and blood work to further  evaluate this

after i eat too much grapefruit or garlic or spicy food sometimes i feel a dull pain in liver area which is radiating in abdomen. wondering what it could be? had enlarged liver in childhood but healed and never usually bothers unless eat these stuff
