Fluids, Fiber: Sounds like you've got hard stools, which can be painful.  I suggest 1-2 tablespoons full of psyllium husks (Metamucil, Konsyl) in a glass of water.  Drink it fast, as it will turn to sludge in your glass, otherwise.  Follow with another glass of water.  We should consume enough fiber to have an easy bowel movement at least once/day.  If you need some stimulation, try magnesium--500-1,000 mg/day.

Left side: It could be constipation. In addition to fiber, drink adequate fluids and take a daily stool softener. See your physician if you have steady discomfort especially with tenderness, abdominal distension,fever,vomiting or black or bloody stools which could signify obstruction,diverticulitis,inflammatory bowel disease

Go see your DR for a: Thorough exam and accurate dx. Possibilities include muscle strain, carotid artery narrowing, sinusitis, intestinal problems etc. Based on your age, you may consider a screening colonoscopy, ekg , blood test to check for diabetes, kidney, prostate, liver & cholesterol problems etc. Stay active and maintain ideal weight .God bless u!

See a doctor: Without being able to exam it is difficult to answer. However you did have a object inserted and this can cause a tear at the anal sphincter. This causes pain when having a BM. The pain makes it so you do not have a full BM which causes constipation, causing lower abdominal pain. 
Please see a doctor for a detailed exam to make sure there is no other cause.

Gyn Examination: You should go see your family doctor or a gyn doctor and have a pelvic examination done. It is easy to tell if you ahve any growth or a cyst with the use of a pelvic ultrasound which your doctor can order. Cysts are benign, they rarely turn into cancer, so do not worry much about that happening.
