Tough: How long has problem occurred ?  Could be many causes.  Early shingles, spasms between ribs, irritation  at rib/cartilage junction, something going on in lung base, somatic (muscles and connective tissue).  You are going to need to get this one checked out.

PE : This may be symptomatic of a Pulmonary Embolus. If you don't have an IVC filter you should go to get a CTA of chest to look for PE and if you have one you should get filter.

Go see ur FamilyDoc: Sensitivity to touch makes me think of zoster/shingles (http://goo.gl/TaqS6s). Without that, I think of pleurisy which could due to pneumonia. Perhaps you overdid one of your upper body exercise routines (although this shouldn't usually cause pleurisy or painful breathing). Bottom line, you need to see your Family Doc for complete &amp; thorough evaluation.

Pleurisy?: If this pain is in his chest this may well be pleurisy. 
This is a pain that is caused by viral or infectious inflammation and worsens with movement , deep breath or cough. See the doctor to make sure it is not serious such as pneumonia.Note that this can be treated with such things as nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs until he can see the doctor.

Esophageal spasm: The muscles in the esophagus sometimes will cramp up on drinking cold water. You should avoid drinking cold liquids.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

pain left side after d & c, polypectomy (ies). its similar to my ovarian cyst pain ( every cycle) but constant for 3 days now- after surgery. do you think the surgery aggravated the cyst?

: I doubt that these procedures would directly affect your ovarian cyst. If you have persistent pelvic discomfort, especially with associated tenderness, you should be evaluated and advised by your gynecologist.

Kidneys?: The region you describe is the left kidney.  If were a kidney stone you would likely have commented on a very intense pain.  Fever and feeling sick would be aroused by kidney infection.  Again the pain can be severe and induce an er visit.  You probably have a back muscle strain and spasm.
