seeing pmgt dr 12 years. been on perco 10/325 concerned about liver puts me on 5mgoxycodone.why not jst 10mg of oxycodone?he says i can take 2 if ned?

Internittent pain: He is quite correct being concerned about Acetaminophen toxicity. The 5mg dosing gives flexibility: take 5mg and see if that works before taking the two if needed. The less you can take to control the pain the slower you will develop tolerance to the medication.

would taking my prescribed medications on a full stomach mitigate any risks for liver problems?  oxycontin and oxycodone.

Irrespective : Can be taken with or without food, ideally with a glass of water. Food has no significant effect on the extent of absorption of oxycodone from Oxycontin and liver damage is not a commonly recognized adverse effect seen with this medication. Brain damage is the number one concern.

No harm: Most of the debate about the role of opioids in chronic pain management is based upon both the safety and efficacy of these drugs and the potential for abuse. Opioids do not cause organ damage with long-term use. Oxycodone has a high risk for abuse and severe, possibly fatal, breathing problems. Be sure you know how to take oxycodone and what other drugs you should avoid taking with it.

im 22 yrs old male 77kg. i take oxycodone, bromazepam, multivitamins, xanax (alprazolam).... i know these medications kill my liver. what medications should i take to save my liver? thank you

Hepatotoxicity: First, the medications you list are not likely to produce any significant liver damage in taken in therapeutic doses. Outside of stopping medications there is little you can do to prevent hepatic damage.

60% va disabled for my back.  i take hydrocodone 10-325 4x
for pain daily.  i quit drinking alcohol  3 years ago.  i have moderate heptic steatosis,  liver 16.3 midclavicular  line. is this too much acetaminophen daily or ask for just oxycodone,age64?

Should be ok: Best thing for hepatic steatosis is weight loss and a low-fat diet. Congrats on quitting alcohol - that is a great step as well. You can ask your doctor about giving you a formulation of pain med with less acetaminophen if you're worried but as long as you do not go over 3 grams of acetaminophen from all sources, you should be ok. This is assuming you have normal liver enzymes and no cirrhosis.

i had a discectomy about a week ago and i am taking oxycodone (amongst several other pain killers) anyway i am unable to open my bowels despite taking several laxatives every day, the pain in my abdomen is so bad im at my wits end?

?Oil enema: You probably have a fecal impaction and may need a trip to the er to have it broken up. You could try a couple of fleet's oil retention enemas to see it that helps, then stool softeners/laxatives while you are taking the constipating pain meds.

If : If you are having severe constant pain then you need to be medically evaluated.   The oxycodone in itself would not cause any severe abdominal problems (other than constipation), but it could mask symptoms of a more serious problem.   Any abdominal pain is a concern.  If you develop fever, increased pain, or vomiting then you would need to be seen immediately.

Pain relief: Oxycodone is usually prescribed every four to six hours for pain treatment.  Factors that come into play when determining dose are are tolerance as well as their genetics which determine if they are fast or slow metabolizers which cause them to  have a larger dosage requirment.  "too much" for a patient is the amount that causes intolerable side effects or exceeds their doctors comfort level.

It's an opiate: Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic opiate derived from codeine.  It is far more potent (5 mg of oxycodone = 30-60 mg of codeine) because it is better absorbed and isn't extensively metabolized in the liver.  It also has far fewer side effects, especially histamine release, than does Codeine or morphine, and it hits the brain very fast.  It therefore has very high abuse potential, similar to heroin.
