Quit smoking!: Oxycodone is a narcotic, which can act as cough suppressant, but is just covering up the major problem here. i'm on oxycodone hcl 10 mg for post-surgery. i have severe bronchial cough & can't stop coughing. they gave me mucinex/codeine syrup. can i take both?

No: Although codeine is a weak narcotic, it is still not a good idea to take both narcotics at the same time. You can get plain Mucinex (guaifenesin) over the counter and use that instead of the Mucinex (guaifenesin) with codeine. If cough persists please see your doctor as sometimes an inhaler or an antibiotic might be needed.

Not aware of any: There are cough syrups that contain Codeine which is a narcotic.  At least historically there is a cough syrup that contained Dilaudid which is an even more powerful narcotic, but I am not sure if that is still available on the market.  I have never heard of any cough syrup that contains oxycodone.

Cough: is necessary attempt by the body to clear undesirable irritants. I do rarely recommend cough suppressants. I recommend expectorates. Many are available over the counter in any pharmacy in the US

Yes....: This is a prescription medicine and will have a pharmacy label on it. On the pharmacy label, it will have the expiration date. It is usually around 1 year from the date it was prescribed. If your medicine has expired, and you have continued symptoms, see your doctor for a new prescription.
