Opioid allergy: Allergic reaction to opioids are no different than most allergic reactions; however, this shouldn't be confused with known side effects: itching, nausea, constipation, histamine release, constipation, and sedation.

Bad idea: There are many other options to treat your pain.  If you really have an allergy (not just itching or nausea) you are risking your life by taking oxycodone.

i am on oxycodone due to a ruptured cyst. is it safe to take with my night pills(lunesta (eszopiclone) 3mg, clonidine.2mg, along with 2 allergy pills)?side effects?

Sedation: The main risk is sedation.  It is never recommended to take sedating medications together but  be aware of the risks.  I would recommend not taking the oxycodone at the same time if you can help it.  You should discuss these concerns with the doc who rxd the medications.

suffering from horrible allergies and can not sleep. tried otc alavert as well as  zyrtec (cetirizine) - the most recent @ 3pm. can i also take oxycodone to sleep?

Accepted Answer

No: Oxycodone is a narcotic for pain.  Although it may cause drowsiness in some people, it is not used for sleep.  Furthermore, the doctor who prescribed the oxycodone should be alerted because he must have ordered it for pain.  If the allergies are horrible, please consult an allergist.

trying to figure out my allergies. i get hives from vicodin, morphine, nsaids, codeine. does that mean also allergic to percocet? how about oxycodone?

Likely: The reaction from codeine, Vicodin, Morphine etc are not truly allergic reaction but from these drugs' ability to release histamine from your cells. Thus you will not likely tolerate any drug in the opiate group. NSAIDs can also cause hives (which are considered allergic in some) but more likely aggravates an existing episode of hives regardless what may be causing it. Need more information.

can i take hydrocodone and a non-drowsy allergy medication?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Should be ok at normal doses of hydrocodone (5-15 mg per dose, 3-4 times a day).  At VERY high doses (more than 120 mg per day), there is a slight risk of heart arrhythmia along with things like ephedrine (ephedrine sulfate) or psuedoephedrine (ephedrine sulfate) due to an additive effect.

what's a good alternative for bromfed (brompheniramine) allergy medication?

Depends: There are different types of bromfed..With or without decongestant..Either way other anithistamines won't make you as drowsy.Try Allegra (fexofenadine)  zyrtec or claritin(with or without sudafed)..There are generics for all of these and they are now over the counter..Just read the labels for any precautions for yourself.

my allergy medication is no longer working. how long should i wait after stopping daily 10mg loratadine doses before switching to daily 180mg fexofenadine doses? i've read that don't want to mix anti-histimines, so is a wait period necessary?

: You can stop loratadine today and start fexofenadine tomorrow. You should not use them in combination, such as using loratadine along with certirizine or fexofenadine or benadryl or hydroxyzine at the same time.

Depends: The choice of allergy medication depends on symptoms. There are several good over the counter antihistamines. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

is it bad to take otc allergy medication to help fall asleep once in a while?

Accepted Answer

Try Melatonin: If you use Benedryl or some other OTC allergy medication to fall asleep once in awhile it won't hurt you.  However, its not a perfect solution.  These medications change your sleep architecture.  You don't get the right balance of each stage of sleep to feel rested.  You may feel hung-over in the morning.  A better solution would be Melatonin.  You can buy it a healthfood store.  Sulingual is best
