No: It is not normal for him to cry all day. I would seek another assessment and keep a record of any thing it may be triggered by. Sometimes the causes are difficult to diagnose. For example it might be gastro esophageal  reflux. My heart goes out to him.

Depends: For an ear infection: you need antibiotics. For "random" pain.. That could be your TMJ or eustachian tube causing problems. If it is your TMJ and the pain is worse when chewing.. You can try some over the counter motrin. If it is more of a pressure/pain you might have when coming down from altitude in a plane, the valsalva maneuver can help. If the pain does not resolve, see your local doc, .

Depends: There are a few middle ear infections that are triggered by viruses and heal on their own within a few days.Simple pain control is all that would be a benefit. However, true pus generating middle ear infections are caused by bacteria &amp; require antibiotics for cure. Untreated they can go on to cause complications including mastoid infections/hearing loss. Have it evaluated soon if not improved
