hi, i am having symptoms of discomfort on the right side hip, and thigh, pain in my abdomen and the pain and swelling is starting to go up on the right side - i am short so i can see it all being affected. could this be a ovarian cyst or hernia?

: It could be those things and more, many of which require urgent evaluation and treatment.  You should be evaluated as soon as possible by your PCP, GYN, Urgent Care, or hospital Emergency Department.

Yes, however : As with any abdominal pain, if persistent, severe, or recurrent, it needs to be evaluated by a physician: in this case, internist, gynecologist, or fp. There are a  number of possibilities, and it may not be easy to diagnose  (good physical exam, possibly vaginal or rectal exam, blood tests, perhaps sonogram needed). The history makes me think first of hernia, but no guessing. Have it checked out.

why would my doc change my pelvic ultrasound to a ct scan? they thought it was a ovarian cyst. but the pain occurred on 11/10 after lifting at the gym. would scan show a hernia or a cyst if thats the issue? im on low dose bcp?

Healthy foods: I don't know of any foods that would affect an ovarian cyst.  But definitely it seems that a lot of your health issues come from abdomen area.  Make sure to eat a lot of fiber.  I'm likely kale salads right now.  Blueberries are another super food that's in season now. But fiber to keep your intestines regular is #1. Also stay well hydrated with water in these summer months.

Seek add Med opinion: If you are having pain all the time need to see an internist and get an imaging study to be sure something else is not going on. A twisted ovary is a dangerous situation and must be R/O.

Hernia: Hernia has a noticeable bulge in contour of abdomen. Generally sight of discomfort.

No: Umbilical hernia and ovarian cancer are unrelated to each other.For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

could a hiatal hernia be caused by ovarian cysts? i had them at same time before, have hernia again, am curious if it's likely more cysts formed too.

No: Ovarian cysts do not cause hiatal hernias and ovarian cysts do not cause hiatal hernias.  It is an unlucky coincidence.
