C hand specialist: There r many possibilities. Cts, tendinitis, r a couple of causes. Also repetitive trauma/ overuse also really not able 2 answer specifically. Need more info exactly where, when, wrist or hand, always or with use, is there swelling or heat?

See below: This could be injury or he could have a inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid---he may want to see his doctor to confirm.

Elevation: Elevation, icing, anti-inflammatories and behavioral modification are the cornerstones to edema reduction.

Right wrist pain: You can consider resting it for a couple of days, icing it for 10-15 minutes a couple of times a day for 1-2 days and taking an anti-inflammatory medication if you do not have any contraindications. If the pain persists, then it should be evaluated.

Could be: carpal tunnel syndrome.  This is a condition where the median nerve gets entrapped at the wrist.  See your doctor for definitive diagnosis and proper treatment, because this condition is readily treatable.

Likely CTS: Best to see hand md for latest new rx, but could try ergonomics at work and splint at night.

Variable: Ice, nsaids, pain meds, splinting, compression, rest, elevation and tendon gliding exercises are a good start. See a hand doctor to determine cause.

Wrist Pain: First thing is rest the wrist. Second thing, have it evaluated as there are many forms of wrist pain, some of which i.E scaphoid and scapho-lunate ligament injuries, can get always get a lot worse. There are certain conditions that are readily treatable non-surgically early on, only to be come difficult surgical challenges if left to progress.

Immobilization: Resting a joint is the first thing to do alliviate pain in the joint; using a cock up type wrist splint would probably help you.
