i am having frequent eye styes in both eyes every month also having eye allergy from 10 years. using antibiotic. what is the permanent solution for it?

Eye doctor + Allergist: you need both, frequent styes could be related to allergies, but we need to make sure first you have the right sight / corrective lenses, and free from any other eye disease, as for the allergist, would make sure as well you truly have allergies, identify the offending agents, gives you the right allergy medicine, possibly starts you on specific  immunotherapy, good luck

can i use otc eye drops along with the rx antibiotic eye drops? eyes are dry and irritated.

Accepted Answer

Yes, if it has no: preservatives, it will be more soothing. Make sure that the tip of either eye drops do not touch the infected eye. Have someone help you instill the drops in your eyes.

my cat scratched me under my eye near the lash line and on the eyelid.  what otc antibiotic can i use?

Eycat scratchconcern: Effective antibiotics can not be purchased without a prescription.  My concern would be to ascertain if a claw of the cat did not puncture through the sclera of the eye.  This could be a potentially  serious trauma.  An ophthalmologist should be consulted immediately.

Be persistent: Most styes respond to frequent applications of heated washcloths - this must be done 4 minutes at a time for 5 times or more per day.  Most do not do this often enough.  Antibiotics rarely work as they cannot penetrate the lesion.  If the condition is persistent, it could be another diagnosis.  A second opinion might be in order with an ophthalmologist.

optometrist diagnosed me w/mild keratitis & faint corneal scar.my key symptom: nonstop dry eye even after 1-wk antibiotic drops. opthalmologist away for several weeks.in the meantime, how often can i use otc lubricating eye drops? warm compresses ok?

: If artificial tears eye drop and warm compress relieve the irritation you can use them as often as you want to when waiting for the ophthalmologist's appointment.

Non ototoxic eye dro: ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin are nice choices for the eyes.  Both are safe and not ototoxic.  Good luck and feel better!

can 15month old hurt themselves from coughing? saw pedi yesterday, gave daughter antibiotics, but she's coughing until she gags and eyes tear.

Coughing spells: Take your child into the washroom and turn on the hot shower. Let your child breath in the hot steam. At night, have he sleeep, with a vaporizer and an elevated matress. Push fluids with lemon and honey. Use vapo rub on chest at bedtime.

why must i avoid eyes while using an antibiotic ointment?

Untested in eyes: I am guessing that you are using an antibiotic ointment for some skin problem on the face.  Many products for the skin have not been tested on the eyes and the medical liability attorneys will tell the pharm company making the product to state on the label, not for eye use 'do not get in eyes'.  The eyes can tolerate a little of many of these things so avoid the eyes but do not be obsessive.

Yes: In fact, that;s what we usually prescribe for the eyelid if its infected.

Accepted Answer

Yes: If you get a skin lesion you are convinced is due to bacterial infection, and have available an appropriate antibiotic eye ointment, it can be effective on the skin.
