Unproven: It is a way to treat osgood schlatters but you have to buy the book describing how it works from jenny strickland who developed the treatment.  I am unable to find any peer reviewed articles written that substantiate her claims.  I have looked it over and there is nothing recommended that would hurt the young athlete.  Depending on the cost of the book it might be the same as a co-pay at pt.

There is no cure for: It a self limiting when the patient reach bone maturity the disease will stop, but the in  course of the disease it cause some pain usually we recommend medications and splint to help the patient, also when the childe reach bone maturity he may need shaving of the pump in front the knee if bother him (surgery).

Osgood-Schatter: This is a disorder common in rapidly growing teens, that although painful during this period, has no long term effects on growth.  Management is supportive and preventative, such as using shin guards for sports activities, NSAID medications such as Motrin/Advil, and applying ice packs when actively painful.  This is usually a self resolving condition and treatment is aimed at pain management.

Ice, rest: Usually the best treatment is ice, rest and nsaids typically after the offending activity which is often basketball in teenagers.
I won't let players play if they are limping, but often the pain

Age : This is a transient issue that becomes most noticeable during the rapid growth of adolescents that are physically active.Reducing the amount of leg work with sports (running, lifting, etc.) can help it calm down as can use of antiinflammatory agents like ibuprofen. Rarely a kid will need a soft splint and crutches until walking can resume.As the kid gets older, growth stops as does osd.

None: Osgood schlatter will resolve on its own.  You can take Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen for the pain, and apply ice after activities that cause pain.

Rest: Osgood-schlatter's is a very common condition in pre teen children age 13 -14 who are increasingly active in sports. It is due to the patellar ligament of knee cap not being completely fused to the tibia as the bone is still growing along the growth plate this causes significant inflammation and pain at top of the tibia below the knee. Best treatment is rest and decreased activity until better.

Fine: Technically you can't really have osgood schlatter at your age, since that is a condition seen in skeletally immature patients.  But if you've had osgood schlatter in the past and you've had no problems, then you can definitely play netball.  If you are currently experiencing knee pain, then i would recommend seeing an orthopedist to get a current evaluation and diagnosis.

A pad could help: Osgood-schlatter is a stress injury to the tibial tuberosity growth plate where the patellar tendon attaches. A fall directly on the tuberosity may aggravate your condition, so yes, a knee brace/pad of some sort may protect the area. Generally speaking, I use a strap across the patellar tendon instead of a brace to relieve symptoms associated with os.

Probably NOT: Osgood Schlatter's disease generally is a problem of 13 year olds. It does not involve the lengthwise growth plates but the "tibial tuberosity" which is the more prominent bump on the front just below the joint itself. Male growth plates are usually closed before females and should certainly be well closed by 20. If still having pain, it should be evaluated for other causes
