Maybe/not : The side effects of a given pill are specific to the individual. They contain hormones which are similar to those made  naturally by women. Some will experience weight gain some not. There are non-hormonal BC choices like the copper IUD or condoms.

Yes and sure...: It is one of the side benefit.....a girl becomes a woman on pills ( changes weight and so many other things )

Not really: When a women starts a new BCPS, there may be some initial wight gain, but it usually comes right off. There is no evidence that BCPs cause sustained weight gain.

Try a LARC : A Long-Acting-Reversible-Contraceptive (LARCs) may be best for you.  Discuss the pros and cons of having either an intrauterine device (copper or hormonal)  or a subdermal contraceptive implant with a knowledgeable and caring gynecologist...and switch to one of these methods which are much more effective at preventing pregnancy than oral contraceptives.  Consulting a nutritionist might also help.

Oral Contraceptives: All of them.  They don't have to have these effects on anyone.  I have women on almost every contraceptive you can name that love the one they are on and just as many who hated the exact one.  You need to visit with your family doctor or gynecologist and discuss the risks and benefits and decide which one is for you.  No one has time for side effects.

i have been on yaz (oral contraceptive) for a year. i have dark skin pigmentation on my face and experienced weight gain after a year. the cramps etc are the same. i have high blood pressure. any other oral contraceptives i can safely use?

Talk to your GYN MD: Your presently prescribing GYN MD can discuss options for alternative contraception with you in detail. He/she will know your hypertension  history and what will work best

Usually: I never promise my pt's anything.  But I have put some of the girls on bcps for acne and it seems to help them quite a bit

No: Estrogen and ocp do not regulate or have affect on prolactin.

Prolactin and OCP: Some of the higher dose birth control pills that were used some time ago did increase the prolactin level in some patients. These effects are less with the lower dose birth control pills used today. Still, in patients with a pituitary adenoma, even the lower dose birth control  pills may increase the prolactin level.

can you take tetracycline when you have oral contraceptive pills?

In general,: I tell patients to use a back up method like a condom for 9-10 days after stopping another medication like an antibiotic.  It is unlikely that most antibiotics will reduce the effectiveness of your birth control, but be on the safe side and use another form for now.  Keep taking the pills.
