Prolactin and OCP: Some of the higher dose birth control pills that were used some time ago did increase the prolactin level in some patients. These effects are less with the lower dose birth control pills used today. Still, in patients with a pituitary adenoma, even the lower dose birth control pills may increase the prolactin level.
