Not reliable see MD!: Oral or elsewhere makes no difference. All syphilis is very dangerous and the only recommended treatment is penicillin by injection; no oral Rx is reliable. If you might have syphilis or exposed, do not self treat. See a doctor, preferably public health or infectious diseases expert. Do not cut corners; it could be life threatening, especially if HIV positive, as are most US males with syphilis.

Syphilis: This mode of transmission is extremely unlikely unless there are open sores on the feet. An RPR blood test is still a good idea to check for syphilis.

: Syphilis chancres almost always are very obvious anywhere on the body. If you have been exposed or otherwise think you are at risk, get care including testing. If you have had sexual contact with someone known to have syphilis, you need penicillin treatment without waiting for a chancre or for test results. Get care if in doubt; your local NHS GUM clinic would be an excellent source for care.

Cold sore is: From a specific virus in the Herpes ( Chicken Pox) family. There is Medicine ,acyclovir, that can help. C ur PCP.

Any STD can be: transmitted through oral sex, including syphilis, if the other person is infected (which they may not know). Gonorrhea, chlamydia and HPV(human papilloma virus) are more common than syphilis these days and can be transmitted this way,  This is why use of condoms for oral sex, as well as anal or vaginal sex is so important.

i had unprotected oral sex exposure. tested syphilis negative at 3, 5 & 6 weeks later. but i took doxycycline on week 3 for 5 days. is the syphilis negative result conclusive or the antibiotics could have made it false negative?

started doxy 4 days after possible exposure to syphilis (giving oral, mouth entrance point). also rocephin 500mg shot 5 days after exposure. doxy is 7 days 200mg/day. is this early enough to kill/prevent syphilis incubation and not become contagious?

: The antibiotic course you were given is for gonorrhea and chlamydia exposure, not for syphilis. You should be treated as an early syphilis case with Penicillin G benzathine 2.4 millions unit x 1, not Rocephin one dose. Because you also receive doxycycline so it should cover early syphilis however the course should be 2 weeks. The abx course you were given is for gonorrhea and chlamydia exposure.

i'm asking in the context of foot fetishes and toe sucking - would that be risk for syphilis or oral herpes? thanks?

No risk, no worry: No new infection can start to cause symptoms sooner than 24 hr after catching it. And that sort of exposure is risk-free for both herpes and syphilis. If you have a new oral or lip sore, it may mean you already have oral herpes and are having a recurrent outbreak.

Yes: It is definitely possible to get syphilis from oral sex. Hiv is more rarely transmitted through unprotected (no condom) oral sex with men, and very rare with oral sex with women. People at risk ar emore likely to have bad gums or sores in their mouths that provide easier entry for the hiv. It is safer to to use condoms (men) or dental dams (women) for oral sex.
