i recently visited an orthodontist to fix my teeth. she had a mould  done and got back to me to say that she cannot do the brace or wire fix and would rather extract the one tooth and do the implant. should i seek a second opinion? with whom?

Yes, second opinion: Not quite sure what "fix my teeth" means.  There are so many variables in that statement that is is impossible to determine what your issue is, sight unseen. For that reason visit a restorative dentist who can visualize what your issues are and recommend the appropriate specialist.

i have a tooth gap in my front teeth and my premolars and molars too. my orthodontist says i need to get braces for 2 years and a frenectomy after that! just getting a second opinion. thanks?

Good Care takes time: If you want to have an excellent result, many times it may take time. Many people can do "accelerated orthodontics" that may take approximately 6 months. It may only address the appearance of your teeth. Proper alignment of the teeth and the bite may take longer. Also be aware that there may be a habit that is causing your gaps. For example, a tongue thrust (habit during swallowing and speaking)

Brace mold: Tell your doc you want it. Usually it is ok to give it to you. Ask for a set of before and after pixs as well.

See Orthodontist: See a local orthodontist to be evaluated. Once evaluated, a fee can be determined. Once a fee is determined, you can apply for financing. Once approved you can begin treatment.

Not in 400 words: Orthodontic treatment is a service not a commodity.  Your rx will be different than your friend's and family member's treatment, depending on your unique needs.  In our office average rx time is 18 months, but we have treated patients needing less than a year, and others needing over three years.  Ask your orthodontic specialist to explain your unique diagnosis, treatment plan, and mechanotherapy.

See below: Different doctors may have different processes to go through.  Usually a comprehensive exam is done, special x-rays taken, clearance that all dental decay has been taken care of as well as any gum disease and then the process can begin.

1st Braces Appt: Orthodontists differ in their application of putting braces on.  In our office we put both the upper and lower arches on all at the same time.  The appointment takes 1 1/2 hours.  It is not a difficult procedure; your mouth will be open with a guard to protect against your saliva from getting the area wet.  The wire is put in the same day.  We use damon system braces.

Knee braces: There is some controversy over exactly what knee braces do and how they work. However, the concensus in the medical commmunity is that they can be beneficial under certain circumstances, depending on exactly what your diagnosis is. what kind of exercises the therapist will have me do to help the healing process after getting my brace off?

Generally speaking: W/o more info about your specific injury this is hard to answer in much detail. As an injury heals physical/ occupational therapy will likely focus on regaining full motion with stretching & use progressive exercises to strengthen all the muscles that have been weakened by the injury and splinting process. You may need formal pt/ ot appointments or be able to work through this with home exercises.
