sunburn blisters are oozing on their own..what does this mean?

Clear fluid?: If the blisters are draining clear fluid i would not be concerned. After the training has stopped you can apply moisturizer to help the dead skin fall off.

You have damaged: your skin. If a large area is blistering - would seek medical attention. Take care.

what would be the best course to take for sun blister on the chin?

Accepted Answer

Blister on chin: If it is a small blister, a bandaid on it till it heals. If it is large, say a dime or bigger, a needle soaked in alcohol can be used to puncture it painlessly at bottom of the blister. Press the fluid out then cover with a bandaid till it heals.

is it a myth that sunburn before age 18 is the most harmful? after 18 i began to be very careful with sun exposure before i had about 5 bad sunburns and one blistering one?

Don't think so: At least in med school we were taught that sunburns prior to age 21  were associated with a higher risk of skin cancer over one's lifetime. It has been a while since I reviewed the data but I don't have any reason to doubt it.

Both : Increase incidence of skin cancer has been noted in these with severe sunburns, and the collective damage from repeated sun exposure increases the chances of skin cancers, wrinkles, and weathered skin changes. Use sun blocking/hydrating products when in sun, eat healthy foods, get adequate  rest, and use skin emollients on a regular basis and don’t smoke.

Cold sore: Not sure. Fever blister is another name for a cold sore. Sun exposure can trigger cold sores.

I would recommend: that you try Aquaphor, a healing ointment. If that doesn't help or it has pus draining, you should have it looked at by your doctor.

Herpes Simplex: A sun blister not due just to a second degree burn represents an outbreak of herpes.  Medication such as Acyclovir and Valtrex (valacyclovir) at the first sign or prodrome such as tingling may significantly reduce the healing time. Using the medication in the anticipation of the outbreak may prevent the outbreak completely.

Can't  say for: certain. However , gentle approach for lip blisters is to apply honey every so often. It  has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
