Feeding: You want to give a well balanced diet with whole grain carbs, fruits and vegetables just like you eat. Since all the teeth are not in yet you do need to make sure you are giving him/her food that is soft but you can establish good eating habits by avoiding junk foods and teaching your child to like foods that are healthy.

Check with doc!: Do not give any prescription medication to your child that has not been prescribed by his/her doc!  Please call the doc and check.  If your child is having trouble breathing and you cannot reach the doc, get evaluated at an ER or UC now.

Chocolate& egg white: There are a variety of foods that make no sense in small infants. Popcorn, peanuts etc. Can be inhaled into the lungs by a pre-verbal child & cause recurrent pneumonia. So safety is sometimes an issue. I specifically avoid egg white & chocolate due to a tendency to trigger allergic rxns later. I don't encourage citrus juices either, but more because of their acid nature & excess sugar.

One year : It's a usual and customary thing to stop formula at one year unless there are allergic reasons or special nutritional needs to consider to continue, but if you want to go on its a good supplement, just be careful of obesity

Vaccine visits: Between newborn and 1 years of age, a baby should have a total of at least 7 visits to get recommended vaccines and an evaluation of growth and development.  It is important to keep these visits, as it is early intervention that will help if your baby is sick or has problems with development.

Any: A 1yo refusing a bottle will often take from a cup. Offer whatever you think they will take within reason. Electrolyte containing hydration fluids, water, applesauce, juices, etc. Examine the kids mouth for sores that might be painful during bottling.

Nasal saline: Cold medicines are not recommended for kids under six. Fortunately, you can use nasal saline to help with congestion and cough from mucus. Spray or put drops in the nose at least 4 times a day, then use a bulb suction to remove the saline and mucus. You can also give an appropriate dose of Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen if your child is uncomfortable from fever.

Vapor and love: There isn't really any medicine that's authorized for that age. Usually best thing is getting the bathroom steamy and sitting in there for half an hour or so. Helps the mucous drain. You can use Vicks (chest only, not on the feet), and nasal saline and suction to remove mucous from the nose. Other cold medicines are, unfortunately, off limits.

Possible but: Very uncommon.  True lactose intolerance generally become noticeable after age 4.
