: Yes, this is common. As boys develop, they actually usually produce a bit of estrogen before they begin to produce testosterone. The estrogen may cause slight development of breast buds. These usually last a year or two, then disappear once testosterone production predominates. Don't worry - everyone, male and female, have some breast tissue.

May be a problem: Regular pubertal onset gynecomastia usually fades within the first year.Persistence after 3 years is likely to improve only with surgery. I would check with your pcp about local options & seek out a consultation. Removal of residual breast tissue and any supportive fat cells is usually done by a plastic surgeon.

Need to see GYN MD: You need to see a GYN MD or Planned Parenthood clinic as you may have a vaginal infection and the health service team can identify the bumps on your nipples.

65yo male patient presented with 1 month history of rt gynaecomastia with a tender lump under the areola which i think could be a breast bud. i organized bloods including hormone tests and a breast uss. what should i do if these come back normal?

Well: If things are normal that is somewhat reassuring but if the lump is still there you will have a better idea of what this issue is after the sono. At that point the next step would be a biopsy.

Areola change ?: A difference in one breast's areola vs. the other can occur in normal development.  See the child's pediatrician to be certain.

Breast abnormal: Even though not on pill or pregnant, your breasts do change with your cycle (sometimes more tender and swollen before your periods, etc.) . On occasion, one breast may have more secretions than the other (breasts are rarely the same exact size) and extra veins can be seen in one and not the other.  Ask your healthcare provider to examine your breasts and perhaps get a mammogram to be certain.
