Good: Are you saying they measured 22 different follicles?  That's a lot.  You're very early on in the process so it's hard to predict.  At the very least though you're average to above average.  They will need to watch for ovarian hyperstimulation if you have that many follicles.  They may need to decrease your dose in the near future.  Most women use stimulation meds for 10-12 days.

during hormones therapy for ivf left ovary produced 5 follicles, only 1 survived, the right ovary did not produce good ones although its healthy. why?

Age: Age is most likely the factor in poor ovarian response to stimulation. The amount of antral follicles decrease as one gets older. No matter how much medication you use the number of follicles that can grow each month is predetermined. This occurs almost a year prior to the stimulated cycle.

No: The size of the follicles can double...However the number of follicles are a pre-determined event, which you can see within the 1st 5 to 7 days of ivf medication stimulation.

i am on day 8 of an ivf cycle and yesterday i had 17 follicles, but today only 9. is this normal? the ones that are still there are developing.

Could be: Each cycle follicles are recruited and in if several have enough stimuli to reach critical size and could be harvested. Starting out with 17 and now with 8 indicates that the other follicles were never going to reach critical size even with the hormonal stimulation. Good luck to you!

Possibly good: These values suggest your ovaries should be receptive to stimulation so it is likely that "good eggs" can be stimulated and collected.  Bu success in ivf depends on good sperm and a healthy uterine lining for the embryo to implant.

Ask your RE: You need to ask your reproductive endocrinologist. They likely also checked you Estradiol level. They follow the progress of the follicle and the Estradiol level to decide when to do the retrieval.

Chances are good: At 31 years of age, the outlook is very good. Different ivf centers will quote different rates, you should ask your ivf doctor to answer this question for his/her facility.

Varies: The success rate for IVF cycles is around 50% to 70% and does depend to some extent on a variety of issues including the age of the eggs being used, the woman's anatomy (fibroids, uterine anomalies, etc) and the experience of the reproductive specialist. Good luck.
