Sometimes: You should first be on a PPI eg. Pantoprazole for a few months. Depending on the response on the medication, your age, your health and the expertise of the surgeon involved, surgery could be considered.

Non-drug Rx helps: Reflux can be treated by eating smaller amounts more often (grazing), being cautious about things that cause irritation, not eating/drinking before sleep, and propping the head of the bed up. If the symptoms are severe, or continue despite those techniques, you may need drug therapy as well. Sometimes directly looking at the stomach with an egd is needed as well. Good luck!

Esophagitis - pain with swallowing, often burning or cramping along esophagus, worse with certain foods and temperatures.

Omeprazole: Omepradex (omeprazole) in the US... Sold as an over the counter proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Generally safe. There is a concern with osteoporosis (thin bones) in post-menapausal women and thinning of the stomach. These are more likely with twice daily use. Generally safe.

okay: Low fat mild is neither good nor bad. Any food (even water) will stimulate gastric acid secretion and relaxation of your lower esophageal sphincter. Remaining in an upright posture after eating is key to improvement. Antacids or med to reduce acid production are cornerstones of therapy. Keeping the head of your bed elevated helps too.
