Surgery: The brain gets its blood supply from 2 carotid arteries and 2 vertebral arteries that combine to form the basilar artery. These 4 vessels are the only sources. The vertebrals and basilar are generally not approachable by surgery so the carotids are often operated to improve circulation if there is >70% stenosis. Antiplatelet drugs are also used.

: It is an almost normal study. Trace atherosclerotic vascular disease is commonly seen in Americans at your age. However, I still suggest a lipid panel if it has not been done yet in the previous 12 months just to make sure your numbers are in ranges.

Carotid stenosis: Any carotid stenosis means that you have significcant hardening of the arteries that should be treated aggressively.  Less than 50% means that the risk of stroke over 5 years is low enough to warrant only aggressive medical therapy.  Medical therapy includes blood thinners, cholesterol reducing medicine, and blood pressure medicine.  Safe exercise is also very important.

generally no: This is mild/moderate blockage and rarely associated with symptoms. Treatment is usually Aspirin and a statin.Do not smoke! follow up with carotid ultrasound every few years.

Interventional XR Dr: At your age more likely due to fibromuscular dysplasia than arterio or athero-sclerosis. An experience interventional radiologist might be successfully able to dilate and stent stenotic arteries. Worth researching the best local facilities +/or consider second opinion at a major medical center such as mayo or cleveland clinics or in a major city. Good luck.

How high is high?: Increased flow without stenosis can happen if the cardiac output is very high or there is tortuosity if the arteries Generally don't worry until systolic velocity is over 200 cm/sec and even then it is probably ok with normal diastolic velocity why did you get the test? IF you are asymptomtic I would not worry too much

Radiologist: If all went wall this should be a very short convalesence but the invasive radiologist who performed the procedure or your vascular surgeon are best qualified to answer your question..

Narrowed artery(ies): Narrowing of one or both renal arteries that lead from the aorta to the kidneys is called renal artery stenosis. Causes are atherosclerosis or fibromuscular dysplasia (fmd). Fmd is a non-inflammatory, nonatherosclerotic process. Both atherosclerosis and fmd cause hypertension and can lead to kidney failure. Imaging should be done to establish the diagnosis. Kidney specialists usually treat this dx.
