Could be a neuroma: Pain under the metatarsal heads (Ball of the foot) is very commonly caused by a Morton's neuroma.  This occurs between the 3rd and 4th toes, although neuromas can be found between the 2nd and 3rd.   In such a case the nerve under the foot supplying the 2 adjacent toes with feeling, becomes entrapped or degenerated.  Acute trauma can cause this.  Burning and numbness generally tells me nerve!

A number of things: They can include tight fitting stockings and/or shoes, overuse, neuropathy from diabetes or other medical reasons, a local nerve issue such as a neuroma or tarsal tunnel syndrome, radiculopathy- nerve issues in the low back or leg (such as sciatica) that refer pain down.

I would suggest that if it persists more than a couple of days and/or gets worse, to seek a podiatrist.

Nerve irritation: Numbness is often a sign of a nerve being irritated or pinched somewhere.  Diabetic patients for example get neuropathy.  Vascular issues may cause numbness too, such as when you get "pins and needles" in your feet if you sit on them too long etc.  If the problem persists, see your dr. And get evaluated and possibly have an EMG to start the diagnostic work up.

Maybe: Sciatica usually refers to shooting pain coming from the back going down one (not both) of the legs.  Regardless such pain represents an irritation of some structures in the body.  Numbness represents a nerve (somewhere) not functionally properly.   These conditions require an evaluation by an appropriately trained health professional.

Peripheral neuropathy can result from problems such as injuries, infections, diabetes, metabolic problems, medications, and vitamin B12 deficiency. There are many medications available for this condition. Get evaluated by your doctor!

Can not be done: Usually nerve damage in feet is irreversible unless this occurs acutely and the condition is reversible with treatment. If you have pain along with numbness then medications can help.

Neuropathy?: Could be early symptoms of a peripheral neuropathy.  Often feels like "poor circulation" but is actually due to nerve problems.  Symptoms worse at night?  (common with neuropathy)  a good neurological exam should help differentiate fairly quickly.  Hope this helps!
