Carpal tunnel: If occurring exclusively at night, may still be carpal tunnel.  Compressive nerve syndromes get worst at rest, but so can degeneration of nerves, or neuropathy.  Need nerve conditions.

Night : Night time tingling and pain can be a sign of carpal tunnel syndrome.
However with many medicines there can also be side effects, and a primary care physician is a good starting point. A wrist splint bought at the store and applied to be well fitting9 not tight) can be a good easy non prescription over the counter remedy initially but with pain, talk to a pcp or family doctor.

Carpal tunnel syndr.: Most likely - carpal tunnel syndrome, from typing too much or other repetitive hand motions. Try sleeping with wrist splints u can buy in a pharmacy. If they don't fit well get a custom-made one from phys. Therapist.  If splints don't help, a steroid injection will. If overweight, weight loss helps. Blood test for thyroid and vit. B12 deficiency. Try b complex vitamins.

Peripheral neuropat: Early peripheral neuropathy,medication side effect, . Commonly....B12, Diabetes, can be also due to other neurologic conditions. Nicotine use and circulation problem can agrvate it.

Numbness in the small usually comes from cubital tunnel or compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. At times numbness can come from cervical (neck) problems.

GET IT CHECKED: You are describing neuropathy. Neuropathy has many causes, the diabetes is one of the most common. If he has not been checked for this, i highly recommend it. Quantity vs Quality: While you're describing an adequate quantity of sleep, you may be suffering from poor quality sleep, for instance, sleep apnea, which can lead to inappropriate sleeping during the day. Numbness is more worrisome and needs to be evaluated by your Family Doc. If it happens again (especially w/loss of strength), call 911 &amp; get thee to an ER to evaluate for possible stroke (remember FAST).

Position: Do you sleep on the side where you have this numbness.  At times if you lay in one position the entire night, you may feel this numbness in your arm and once the arm starts recovering there's tingling as well.  How long does it last? does it occur each night, sometimes during the day? any other symptoms?.  Change positions and see what happens.
