how do you stop nosebleeds in children?

Stop the finger!: Preventing "digital trauma" (or nose-picking) is the best way to head off nose-bleeds. But if one starts, sit child up, tip head back (placing the nose at the highest point of body so blood drains away from it), & gently but firmly pinch the soft part of the child's nose just below the nasal bone. Be patient! hold pressure for 20 minutes without stopping. A cold compress over the nasal bone helps.

Many causes...: Nose bleeds in kids can be caused by a number of things. The number one cause by far is nose picking. Dry skin inside the nose can also be a problem (a little vaseline can help). Friable blood vessels in nose can be cause (need to see ENT to get treatment). Lastly, low platelets can cause pretty severe nose bleeds (>20 minutes). Treatment depends on cause of low platelets.

Nose bleed: Nose bleed can be due to trauma to the nose, dryness of nasal mucosa, sinus infection, use of nasal cocaine, low platelet level, use of certain medication such as aspirin, overuse of nasal steroid, elevated blood pressure; if it continues, see a doctor to rule any blood clotting abnormality

No: If they continue have your brother see his family doctor or an ENT specialist. The rare nosebleed will generally resolve on its own.

Can't stop the bleed: The most common reason for nosebleeds in children is dryness in the nose.  Dryness can be due to dry heat in the home or changes in weather.   You may try putting a nasal saline gel inside the nose to keep the nose lubricated and moist.  If the nose continues to bleed, you may need to see an ear, nose, throat doctor to cauterize the blood vessel which is bleeding and may be close to the surface.

ADHD & nosebleeds: There is no direct correlation between adhd and nosebleeds. However, it is possible that your child's blood pressure has gone up because of the medication which could cause nosebleeds. Additionally there could be a platelet change on some of the medications as well so it might not be a bad idea for your son to be evaluated by his pediatrician.

my daughter 6 yrs  has had a nosebleed for three days it's a start and stop nosebleed for for the whole day should i worry and take her to her doctor?

Yes.: It is never wrong to check with her pediatrician. Usually nosebleeds are from dry air-conditioner and colds or nose-picking because the mucosa is very fragile where the nose most frequently bleeds. When it occurs, have her lean her head over the sink so you can see how much she is bleeding, pinch the bridge of her nose, and use an icepack. The Dr. may  check her platelets &amp; clotting factors.

my 15 month old bumped heads with my 4 year old and got a nosebleed, which has stopped. she and her nose seem fine. do i need to worry at all?

No knockout/no pbm: The trauma that knocks you out, even briefly, has produced a concussion.If the trauma wasn't enough to cause even brief loss of function is unlikely to be a problem.Some will throw up once or seem dazed with a headache.If she starts vomiting multiple times, i would have her seen.The nose of most at that age is pretty forgiving.
