had a ct done, ive been having pains in my left neck /shoulder for over a year. the result , mildly prominent left level 2a lymph node measuring up to 8 mm short axis. is this considered a normal size lymph node for the neck? should i be concerned?

can a normal sized lymph node in the neck be visible as a small bump when moving head and neck certain positions? especially in a very thin person? or would it more likely be a bump from a vein similar to what can be seen from the back of a hand?

: Lymph nodes are located throughout the body &amp; generally noticeable in exposed areas like the neck where they are not hidden by fat or tissues. They are usually pea sized at rest and enlarged when stimulated by bug bites, dermatitis, drainage or infection. They rarely can become damaged by infection &amp; grow to golf ball size &amp; need drainage or removal.

is a cluster of mobile lymph nodes on back of 2 yo neck normal.  all different sizes. they seem like they are all together but i can feel each one?

Yes: There are thousands of lymph node located around the body.Many in the neck, head,  behind the ear are prominent in kids as they are not buried in tissue . At rest these are often 1/4 inch in diameter and may grow to marble sized when reacting to a stimulus. Bug bites, or viral infections can increase their size to 1 cm or more.Most will  shrink  down to pre-stimulated size over 3-4 wks.

2 cm or more: Lymph nodes in the neck are frequently palpable, particularyly in a thin neck.  Nodes of concern are generally greater than 2 cm in diameter.  Other worrisome signs are nodes that are very hard, immobile, multiple, or very tender.

Lymph nodes in kids: Yes. It is perfectly normal for children to have multiple lymph nodes up to 1.5-2 cm diameter from ages 1 to 21, usually in the neck on either side along a chain of lymph glands stretching from behind the ear all the way down to the clavicles. They are caused by the repeated (but normal) colds, sore throats, and other viral infections that children get. No need to worry.

i went to do an ultrasound of the soft tissue in my neck due to feeling some lymph nodes. the results i received were bilateral neck lymph nodes are considered normal in size by ultrasound criteria. these may be reactive. what does this mean?

At rest these are often 1/4 inch in diameter and may grow to marble sized when reacting to a stimulus. The word reactive implies the noses have been stimulated and are doing their job, nothing more.
