Many types: There are many types of medications that can potentiate retention.  The most common are decongestants such as Sudafed, which can increase urinary sphincter tone.  Antihistamines, taken for allergies, may cause less bladder contractility.  Anticholinergic preparations, taken for overactive bladder symptoms (urgency/frequency) can also make it more difficult to empty the bladder.

Get checked: You need to see your clinician for an evaluation and treatment plan. Maybe you have a bladder stone, maybe there is bladder muscle function problems, maybe its medication that you are taking. And there are many other possible causes. Do get checked. : In pr0per doses the urinary side effects are not 'severe' and occur in a small minority of pts. You can discuss alternative treatment with your prescriber as he/she knows your problem best.

I am not aware of : Atovaquone by itself or in combination with proguanil as Malarone (atovaquone and proguanil) to be associated with urinary retention.

: Urinary retention is not a known adverse effect of doxycycline. If you receive this medication for a genitourinary disease, your prostate problem may get worse which can cause urinary retention. You need to call the prescribed doctor right away or see a urologist ASAP.

Ur in women can be caused by severe stool impaction, cystocele or uterine prolapse & correctable.Due to neurogenic bladder will need to be managed by intermittent catheterization. Surgery will cure if male with prostate enlargement.
