Non-obstructing kidney stones can not be felt at all. However, a stone can sometimes move in and out of an obstructing position. Imaging studies may catch a previously obstructing stone when it is no longer causing blockage (obstruction).

Probably not..., but: The described 0.7-cm size is large than what professionally advised to wait and see. Generally speaking, some 85 % of stones of &lt;0.4 cm would pass through ureter in 2 wks; but it doesn&#x27;t mean the &lt;0.4-cm ones would always pass and the &gt;0.4-cm ones would never pass. Yet, if stone-related pain is tolerable and the dilation of ureter.Kidney is not severe, few &gt;0.4 cm stones may pass in 1-4 months.

found 5.8mm non obstructing kidney stone incidentally on ultrasound. urologist said it is up to me whether i want to leave it because its not causing issues or have ureteroscopy. is there a benefit to having it removed?

: If the stone is successfully removed, you can avoid complications even stone doesn't move or when it moves down then it is stuck because the stone is bigger than 5 mm. However, the retrograde approach (ureteroscopy) for stone removal isn't simple and not always successful which depends on the stone location and urologist's expertise. Leave it for now if stone is in the low pole &amp; asymptomatic.

7+ macro hematuria, er trip on day 3 ct showed non obstructing kidney stone in left 4mm and right 5.5mm kidneys, neg uti, mono (10e3) high .8 max ref. is it fine to let this go as er indicated or is more evaluation needed?

: There is nothing such thing as 7+ macro hematuria. I think you mean you had gross hematuria. It seems that you did not have any flank pain and you only went to ER because of the gross hematuria and kidney stones are detected by CT. It is rare, but possible, to see a case of gross hematuria due to kidney stone without renal colic. You are OK for now but you need to see a urologist for future care.

: If the the stone obstructs the flow of urine from the kidney to the bladder, you most definitely feel intense pain. It all really depends on the size of the stone. Since your other kidney would not have an obstruction and allow urine to pass into the bladder you will still be able to urinate. See a urologist for further guidance.

1.1cm: Is a relatively large stone, and may lead to problems in the future, even though now it is non-obstructing.  Discuss the risks/benefits with your Urologist in an informed decision making conversation/visit and decide the best option for your specific case.  Good luck.
