Mildly Elevated: Non-HDL cholesterol is a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than traditional LDL cholesterol measurements. Your non-HDL is actually 126 if your tot. cool. and HDL are correct as stated. Your low HDL is not a treatment target. Do you have a family history of premature atherosclerotic disease? Eat healthily and exercise regularly, and DON'T SMOKE! Good luck!

Nuts good for HDL: Eating nuts tends to increase HDL (good) cholesterol and decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol. The effect is larger if triglycerides are also elevated. See this excellent review paper for more information:

also remember that weight loss and exercise improve cardiovascular risk substantially.

Fitness is the key: Medication and perhaps even diet may have an impact, but if it is at all possible, get back into that aerobic fitness lifestyle that you enjoyed so much as a teenager. Omega - 3 fish oil.: LDL is not lowered by eating HDL that I am aware of; however a higher HDL will somewhat offset the effects of a high LDL; thus raising HDL is beneficial. A very good source to raise HDL is Omega - 3 fish oil, which is in cold water fish. Omega - 3 fish oil can be purchased as a supplement in most pharmacies and supermarkets. Hope this helps. Nothing I can: Find in the literature! however, those numbers are very good from a lipid standpoint= good for heart ; blood vessels.
