Individual: Each person is different. Sometimes it can progress to headbobbing in addition to hand tremors. Discuss with your family doctor and you probably need to be seen by a neurologist to try to find the underlying cause of the symptom, i.e. Is it truly "essential" meaning we just do not know.

Postural tremor diff: A wing beating tremor is under the broad term of "postural tremors" which means that the tremor is worst with maintenance of an anti-gravity posture.  The "classic" wing beating is described for wilson's disease but can be caused by other disorders such as essential tremor (et), drug induced tremor, post traumatic, etoh withdrawal, physiologic, and psychogenic to name a few.

Nobody knows: The neurophysiology of both alcohol and essential tremor are both elusive. The response to ethanol and to Propranolol are distinctive features of essential tremor, but since no one knows what it truly is, the diagnosis could still be made if there's no amelioration on alcohol. Don't overtreat or worry greatly about this common illness, and good luck.

Movement Disorder: A chronic progressive neurologic disease that may involve the arms neck chin and voice but rarely the legs. It is present during movement and often with sustained posture and rarely at rest. The disorder is partly genetic. Symptoms increase with advancing age, most prevalent cases are >60 yrs. Initially the tremor may be mild and may not worsen for years.Treatment: beta blockers +/- primidone.
