Not necessarily: Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease. It most commonly affects lungs. In the lungs it usually causes enlargement of lymph glands on both sides.

Thyroid nodules: They may, depending on their size, composition, and what is causing them.  Ultrasound picks up thyroid nodules so small that they are of no significance.   The risk of thyroid cancer from a nodule is low, but should not necessarily be dismissed.  If someone told you you have thyroid nodules, you should probably see an endocrinologist who does his/her own ultrasounds and biopsies.

Just because: Nodules are kind of like freckles of the thyroid.   Many thyroids have nodules and some thyroids have many. Occasionally one of these nodules might be a cancer. We don't know exactly why people get cancer either.

it depends...: Nodules around the kidney could either be solid masses or cysts.  Further imaging studies, like a ct scan, would be needed to fully investigate what these "nodules" are.

Nonspecific term: The term 'nodule,' no matter which site it is at, is a very nonspecific term.  Most often nodules are NOT cancer. However, when a 'nodule' is noted by exam or imaging, it is often termed suspicious or not suspicious. Sometimes, more tests are required immediately or in a few months to further assess a nodule. Sometimes, no further test is necessary. Be sure to follow up with your doctor.

Bright: Echogenic means brighter or whiter than the tissues around it. Hypoechoic would mean darker or blacker than the tissues around it.

Couple of things: Somewhat common is a ganglion cyst (small collection of concentrated joint fluid). Gouty tophus, or maybe a bone/cartilage cyst, or bone spur can form "nodules" on the thumb area. If it is bothersome to you, i suggest getting evaluated.
