Tonsil can bleed: If you manipulate a tonsil stone within the crypt of a tonsil which may be inflamed you can get some bleeding after probing in the area. Try ice water rinses to stop and oozing and have it checked if you continue to see blood in your sputum.

Tonsil stones: They may be coming from residual tonsil tissue that was not removed, or possibly from the lingual (tongue) component of tonsillar tissue that is not removed in a standard tonsillectomy. I would recommend you see an ENT who can evaluate you for residual tonsillar tissue and perform endoscopy to look at the base of the tongue.

Milk them!: The tonsils , when they are enlarged frequently have deep indentations into which dental plaque bacteria can gain access, multiply and harden. The tonsil needs to be massaged from rear (back of the throat) to the front to milk the plaque out. the openings or ducts can be scratched or torn slightly by this process and can hurt.

Yes: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat to see if antibiotic therapy is needed).

Tonsil stones: If it’s sore you could have a tonsil abscess ( infection in the tonsil) . If it is not sore it may be a normal variant with stones in it. . You should have it looked at by primary or ENT Doctor.

Try a Water Pik.: An oral irrigator or dental water jet device such as a Water Pik can be used to rinse out stones without traumatizing the tonsil tissues. Use it in its gentlest setting to prevent gagging. In difficult cases, see an ENT doctor.  Avoid using objects such as Q-tips or your finger to manually express stones from the tonsil, as this can cause more serious pain and predispose to infection.

Cryptic tonsils: As some people get older, their tonsils lose their smooth surface and become pitted or cryptic.  The purpose of the tonsils is to sample debris (food as well as cellular debris) to help determine if is dangerous or not to the body.  It then compacts the debris and gets rid of it.  This happens in every person with tonsils.  However, if the tonsils are cryptic, the debris is larger and noticeable.
