Hirsutism: Excess face or body hair on a woman can have a few causes. Sometimes over the counter products can provide temporary relief. Precription medicine like Aldactone (spironolactone) can also help.  See your doctor for appropriate testing and treatment.

Some women will have increased hair in ununsual places due to hormone imbalance (androgen excess) or rarely due to hormone producing tumor.  If hair growth is rapid and associated with other symptoms, it may represent something more serious.

See below: This can be caused by many things. First, are you overweight or obese? If so or you eat a lot of meat (esp red meat), your body is making more steroid hormones than it needs to, particularly testosterone (women need this too) - that will cause excess hair on the face and chest. Second, are your periods regular - if not, see your gynecologist for an evaluation. Third, it may be partly genetic.

Could be: Hi. It sounds like you may have some androgen excess syndrome, although with your periods normal, it also just could be your genetics. Is the hair recent? The most common androgen excess syndromes would be PCOS, nonclassical congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Cushing's syndrome, and tumors of the ovaries or adrenals. Ask your doc for a referral to an endocrinologist for an evaluation. Good luck!
