have bad reflux for years.  only help is nexium (esomeprazole).  can i take this forever?  what are the risks? i have a good diet already.

Liquid antacids work: If your problem genuinely is acid-related (e.g. Reflux, heartburn, peptic ulcer), then liquid antacids *have to* work.  Simple chemistry (acid/base) dictates that this is the case.  The base (antacid) neutralizes any excess acid, creating water and salts.  Try tapering nexium, (esomeprazole) and if there is heartburn, use maalox (prn).  Stomach acid has an original reason: sterilizing and breaking down foods.

i had very bad acid reflux and discomfort few months and i am now on medicine tecta and nexium , but it seem not work well for me. is there any better?

Acid refelux which: does not respond to simple medication should be evaluated by a Gastroenterologist and usually upper GI examination (gastroscopy) is indicated! There will be a medication or combination of medications which will control your symptoms!

on nexium (esomeprazole) for a few wks. forgot to take it today & its already nighttime. does it make sense that i have stomachache and bad reflux? or its unrelated?

Certainly possible.: if you skipped your Nexium (esomeprazole) that day, it is certainly possible for your stomach to produce acid, which could cause reflux in the esophagus. In that setting, it is okay to use antacids for your discomfort. Best, though, would be to try to remember to take your Nexium (esomeprazole) on a daily basis. Prevention of the reflex is better than having to treat it after the fact. Good luck.

can i take nexium (esomeprazole) after eating? i forgot to take it before i ate and i get bad acid reflux at night if  i  don't take it.

Yes, but . . .: Check out http://www.drugs.com/nexium.html which states that Nexium (esomeprazole) is best taken at least an hour before a meal. But the fact is you only take one a day, not before every meal, so if you feel you need it, then take it (assuming it's been a few hrs since you ate). Beware of potential complications from taking more than 8wks. Another option is to try calcium carbonate eg Tums/Rolaids

PPI: Please ask you doctor to help you taper off of Nexium.  Ask him / her about replacing it w/something natural such as GDL, which is licorice capsules w/an enzyme taken out of it so that it does not raise your BP. Peace and good health.

See GI: When Nexium (esomeprazole) is insufficient for controlling severe heart burn (especially at the age of 17yo) then it is time to see a GI specialist.  Some testing is indicated to see if there is an underlying cause.  Discuss with your doctor and try to set appointment today

i have acid reflux really bad, despite taking 40mg nexium (esomeprazole) a day, and prilosec @ nite,, i sometimes still get it bad, isn't there something to numb it?

Fixes for heartburn: Short answer: avoid spicy/ greasy foods, tomato-foods, mints, alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, chocolate, late night meals before bed, fizzy drink. Long answer: distinguish acid vs non-acid causes of reflux &amp; rule out motility problems of the esophagus &amp; stomach. What tests have you undergone? What other medications have you tried? Are you sure your "heartburn" is really just reflux of stomach contents

hi. i ate breakfast (oatmeal) after 8am. i ate dairy free yogurt after 10:50 am. i didn't eat all as it made me feel bad. i am taking nexium for acid reflux. after 12, i started to feel weak. what could have caused this? my heart started to race?

can acid reflux (gerd) cause dizziness and anxiety ? was prescribed nexium (esomeprazole) twice daily, doc said the acid burned my throat, it was pretty bad.

Maybe: Acid reflux may be causing your anxiety, but in my opinion, it may be the other way around.  Your anxiety may have been part of the cause of your acid reflux and dizziness. Alcohol may also be a culprit. The medications you are taking also need to be considered. Consult with your treating physicians to take a thorough look at your entire medical history, and make changes accordingly.

Gerd: Elevation of the head of the bed by placing a board under the head board.  Not eating before bed.  Cutting out caffeinated beverages and alcohol. Aspirin, NSAID's and similar drugs.  Peppermint can increase reflux.  Consider seeing a GI specialist for a gastric scope.
