my 4 month old baby has an allergic reaction to milk formula and has switched to soy without problems.  when should he have an allergy test?

No rush if soy OK: Was the reaction skin, respiratory or gastrointestinal (gi)? Was there blood in the feces? If symptoms were completely GI & associated with pallor or floppiness think enterocolitis. This non-ige mediated milk allergy reaction may persist for several years. Only valid test is oral challenge carefully performed by an experienced allergist. For skin & respiratory symptoms skin or blood test at 1 year.

Skin rashes: Skin rashes need to be looked at so we can give you a proper diagnosis. By saying allergic reaction, i assume you refer to skin rashes due to an allergic reaction. There are generally 2 types of skin rashes due to an allergic reaction, an immediate reaction causing hives and a late reaction causing dermatitis. The later may look like a newborn rash. They can be treated the same way.

Not necessarily : Cows milk based formulas more closely resemble breast milk. It is only healthier for babies with lactose intolerance or milk protein intolerance.

3week old has been on enfamil newborn and soy formulas. dr just switched him to nutramigen but he's just as gassy and spits up more often. any help?

Talk to your doctor: It can take about a week or so to find out if the new formula will work better for your baby. Gassiness and spitting up are usually related to how your baby feeds, more than the type of formula. Hold him upright as much as possible during feeds, and burp him frequently. Don't lie him down or put him in the carrier right after feeding. Talk with your doctor if he isn't doing better.

what should i feed a toddler with milk allergies that is very picky and just wants his bottle of soy formula?

Finger foods: Offer small servings of finger foods- crackers, pieces of fruit or veggies, pieces of meat, rice/noodles/potatoes- that your child can pick up and feed himself. Stop the bottle- if your child is over 1 year old, it can damage the teeth. Give milk in a cup at meal times and water at other times. Many kids are picky at this age- don't make it a battle- just offer healthy choices.

Yes: Wic has a special form for physicians to complete that can indicate a milk or soy allergic infant requires a hydrolyzed protein formula or an elemental formula.

Food sensitivities: Blood tests are often inaccurate with regards to allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities. The best way to confirm a problem with these foods is to do a 4 week elimination diet. So do not eat dairy or soy products of any kind for 1 month and see how you feels.

Soy allergy: For food labeling lots of products have lecithin -phosphatidyl  choline it is a emulsifier  used in dressings, chocolate (except enjoy life  choc) and  unless stated sunflower lecithin it is soy based. Tofu, tempeh , teriyaki sauce, bean paste, endamame ,textured vegetable protein, vegetable oil Propofol the anesthesia is a soy product. f/u w/allergist /nutritionist

i am allergic to wheat, soy, peanut, egg, fish. i have been staying away from all these, but recently my allergies are effecting me alot.

What allergies?: If the foods you mentioned are avoided , then you won't have symptoms of food allergies, but you can still have symptoms of airborne allergies affecting your respiratory tract or skin, better see uour doctor who may refer you to an allergist for further management, good luck
