Neutrophils : Neutrophils are white blood cells that help to fight bacterial infections.  The absolute neutrophil count (anc) is used to assess how many neutrophils a person has.  A count that is too low can put you at risk for bacterial infections.  A high count can indicate that your body is fighting an infection, or can be from an inflammatory injury such as a burn, heart attack or appendicitis.  People who do not have a spleen also can have a higher than normal anc.  It can even be caused by medications (such as steroids) or stress.  Very rarely a high ANC can indicate malignancy such as chronic myelogenous leukemia, but people usually have other signs and symptoms, also.  Because of this very wide range of high ANC causes, the context in which the test was ordered and how high it actually is is very important.  If you are worried about your test result, call the doctor that ordered the test and ask what they were looking for and if your high ANC is a concern.

Variations normal: If your absolute counts are normal, and you do not have any symptoms, there is no cause for concern. All blood values vary some at different times of day, different times in menstrual cycle, alcohol intake and medications.

i have hashimotos and i just had full blood count done and my neutrophils levels are low. the range is 2- 7.5 mine is 1.6 what does this mean. ?

Recheck CBC once mor: Your neutrophils are still near normal range. If you are concerned check them once/twice again in 2-3 weeks apart. Do send us your WBC, HB and Platelet counts also besides the neutrophils and the remaining differential count.

Take more vitamin D: Take more vitamin d. Some people need as much as 10, 000 iu daily to keep their level above 50 ng/ml which many of is is therapeutic level. The vitamin d should have no effect on your neutrophil count and a slightly low count is usually of no clinica.

i had my blood test since last september and now it says that neutrophils level is 37.67% (normal is 50.0 -72.0 ) and lymphocyte levels 53.20% (20.0 - 40.0 is normal). leukocytes level is fine. i work out every day. is this the cause? should i worry?

: You need not worry as such changes are not uncommon. There is some small chance the machine reading has some room for error.
This reversal in the %age of Neutrophils and lymphocytes is commonly see if there is a virus infection such as "Flu).
You can either ignore it (because it is harmless) or if you are worried get it rechecked in 6-8 weeks from now. it will likely be back to the normal %.
