can ulnar neuropathy in one arm/hand somehow be responsible for beginning symptoms in the other one? my left is useless and i can't lose the right one

Its possible: you may be overusing the other hand to protect the one with the neuropathy.  If it is beginning to give you problems have it examined by your physician.

can small fiber neuropathy affect one leg or does it generally affect two limbs (e.g-leg, arm)?

Neuropathy: Usually affects both feet. However it can be seen in one foot as well but its not common.

extreme internal burning in my legs, back & arms. no accidents. joints stiffening no neuropathy/fma. bulging discs c6/c7.  getting bad debilitating meds only keep me from dying.i need help where to go, college? no one can diagnose yet. i'm suffering.

Muscle: I would suggest you see a good rheumatologist in your area. If he is associated with a teaching hospital I think it may help. Good Luck !

is peripheral neuropathy associated with systemic scleroderma? had numbness and tingling in my hands & feet for almost one month. hasn't gone away, but has gotten worse. numbness can extend up to elbow sometimes. does this mean there's nerve damage?

: Far from uncommon as at least 30% of all scleroderma patients develop a peripheral neuropathy within the first 10 yrs of the disease.  The extent of "damage" can be objectified by an EMG-NCV study, but should be done by a physician with years of experience to be reliable.

It is a disruption of the nerves fibers that can progress from a tingle sensation to pain and numbness.

Autonomic NS: The changes in your arms are due to the underlying disease process.  The mottling is a sign of autonomic disregulation.

Could be the neuro: Your evaluation will help clarify if it is related to your neuropathy. There may be an alternative reason that is causing this and your physician will examine you for an alternative cause. It will also depend on what type of neuropathy you have.

Possibly: This is one of those problems where a visit to your doctor is necessary to figure out what's going on.  Only after a thorough evaluation, including examination and possibly labs and other tests, can your doctor correctly diagnose you and treat you effectively.

Medical Evaluation: It is important to have this medically evaluated. Depending on cause, you can speak to your physician about options. I am currently treating patients with cold hands and feet with acupuncture with great results.

must an emg test for periperal neuropathy include both a test of an arm and leg to be valid? i was told i have pn based on legs only.

Accepted Answer

No: Peripheral neuropathy may only manifest in one limb  --  that's the only area that would need to be tested. Tests may be more extensive if the symptoms are also more extensive.
