Ulnar n. entrapment: The ulnar nerve gives sensation to the 3rd-5th fingers, and innervates the small, fine motor muscles of the hand. It can become entrapped at the elbow, causing weakness in the fingers with  loss of fine motor control, and tingling or numbness in the fingers. It is the nerve you hit when you strike your "funny bone" at the elbow. It isn't usually a cause of symptoms at the armpit.

Doubt it being nerve: I doubt what you feel is a nerve, as they usually don't present as hard strings under skin. You may have a lymph node (small, firm round bump) or a tendon (string line, mobile structure) but not a nerve.

Unlikely: The cervical (neck) spinal nerves are associated with pain that radiates into the arms.  Upper thoracic (chest area) spinal nerves could be associated with pain radiating around the axilla (armpit) into the chest.

round bump in armpit, feel hard/rubbery. only felt when arm is completely overhead. not visible without certain lighting, when pressed on sends a nerve like pain all down my arm. had for 1wk. hx of injury to muscles in armpit, humoral head protrudes?

: Most likely enlarged node from inflammation related to injury or past infection in that arm/hand. Review your past history of that and then share/show to Drs.

How is your neck: If you have a pinched nerve in your neck, position of your head can place pressure on that nerve by a disc for example.

does shingles always have a rash?  i have a nerve-like pain just below my armpit but no rash or blisters.  the pain has been longer than 1 week too.

Inflammation: They react to anything inflammatory, like infection or injury. So even though they may not be reacting to the spasmed muscle, they may be reacting to the cause of the spasm, whatever that may be.

Neck or Thoracic: Outlet are like places. Nerve conduction tests might help locate the site. Consider seeing your pcp to arrange this or consider seeing a neurologist or neurosurgeon.
