Nerve or blood : The nerves emerge from the spine and supplies the fingers through the median, ulnar, and radial nerves. Compressions of nerves can occur at many sites along this course. The patient can have poor blood supply to the hand which can change the feeling. There is thoracic outlet obstruction in some people, tumors, act. This symptom needs to be carefully evaluated by a physician and studies.

Directions: First, she needs to visit a neurologist and determine the underlying causation.   She could be experiencing nerve pinching, but could also be developing a small fibre neuropathy.  Many medications can be useful, including lyrica, (pregabalin) cymbalta, neurontin, etc.  This can be controlled.

May be: It may be parasthesias caused by a nerve injury you sustained when picking up the heavy bag and irritating the nerve that innervates the tip of your finger.  Nerve injuries can heal over time, even more so if properly diagnosed and treated quickly.  Best for you to see a dr, get eval and testing (possible emg) so the best treatment can start.  Good luck.

Should: It sounds as though a nerve was penetrated by overshot of the needle.  This usually heals on its own but can cause long term damage or neuroma formation.  If it persists or worsens see a hand and upper extremity specialist.

Bruising: Neuroapraxic injury to the digital nerve distal sensory branches. Should resolve over 4 to 6 week time frame. Not a permanent injury. If finger was lacerated then potential for nerve laceration and need to be evaluated.

Ulnar : Seek counsel from a neurologist.  Emg nerve studies may show compression.  Steroid injections, physical therapy/splinting with activity modification, and potentially surgery may be warranted.

Go to ER: This needs immediate evaluation. The catheter placement may have been incorrect. Call your doctor now or go to the er. Was the drug rituxan (rituximab)?
