Metronidazole: Metronidazole (a component of Neo Penotran) is excreted in the breast milk in high concentrations. While the studies are done on the oral version of metronidazole and not the topical version, it is unknown how much gets absorbed and then subsequently excreted in breast milk so it is recommended that milk be discarded while on therapy.

was prescribed neo penotran; on the 3rd day of use i got pinkish discharge with the rest of the what looks like is the suppository discharge, is this normal?

Neopenotran: This product is used to treat trichomonas or yeast vaginal infections. Your pinkish discharge could be due to the inflammation/infection, trauma or irritation from the suppository. It's not possible to determine how much of the actual medication was retained. Therefore you'll have to observe for presence of persistent symptoms or consult your gynecologist.

No: The itchiness in the vagina is often from the yeast infection that your doctor is treating with that medication.  Having said that, some women do have allergic reactions (which can include itching) to certain ingredients in any vaginal medication.  If you just started the med, give it a few days. If it's been a few days, talk to your doctor.

a day after finishing neo penotran forte i experienced pink discharge mid morning. i experienced the same discharge while using neonpenotran forte on days 4,5,& 6. is it normal to experience the same thing a day after finishing neo penotran forte?

: Depending what it was given for- usually for candida infection. If you had something else that is what is showing. Pl see your doc/Gyn again

Metroniadizole: is secreted in breast milk and cause nausea,seizures and possible liver problem in the baby.and should not be used while breast feeding even though safe in later pregnancy

my ob gave me neo penotran for 5 days she knows that im breastfeeding. is it safe to take while breastfeeding? what are the risk to my baby?

Safe: Neo penotran contains two medications:  metronidazole and miconazole.  Metronidazole and fluconazole (a medication similar to miconazole) can both be given orally to infants, so the amount that would be absorbed vaginally and be excreted in breast milk would be negligible and safe for breast feeding.

: You are treated for vaginitis with this suppository so those findings are not uncommon. I wonder how your vaginal symptoms after 4 days of treatment besides those discharge's characteristics. If the symptoms of vaginitis such as burning, itching, frequency, etc. have improved you should be fine. Please continue the full course, good luck.

: Your boyfriend should be treated as the same time because he is likely a carrier, i.e. he could be the source but he does not have symptom.
