Overwhelming: Odds are that your breast lump is not cancerous, at your age if you are 17.  Wait for results of biopsy to make sure.

i'm 46 and had a core biopsy for a large breast lump. the diagnosis was fibroadenoma. will it ever turn malignant?

Accepted Answer

NO: Generally fibroadenomas are benign tumors that predcominantly occur in younger females of childbearing age. In and of themselves, they do not transform into malignant lesions. This is determined by other factors such as family  history, genetic testing, calcfications, cellular atypia, etc. That will be a part of a complete hsitory and physical examination, .

how quickly you get the results from laboratories on a breast lump biopsy?

Accepted Answer

1-3 days: This varies quite a bit from hospital to hospital.  At my hospital, biopsies from the breast center are made top priority so that the results will return in 1 day, provided that it is received by 3pm. Pathology reports following breast cancer surgery may take a little longer, on the order of 2-3 days.  Special studies such as tumor markers may take as long as a week.

core biopsy of 6mm breast lump that look mildly suspicious on u/s came back as benign lactational changes. i am nursing my son. what does this mean?

Nothing!: The findings simply show that the tissue has undergone the normal changes that occur with childbirth and lactation.  This is good news!  the term, "lactation" simply means, "making milk.".

i can feel my breast lump higher in my breast than i could before my stereotactic biopsy. could it have moved, or is it likely bigger?

had my "irregular hypoechoic heterogenous 2.4cm breast lump"  biopsied and it turned out to be a benign 'sclerosing adenosis'. what causes these?

Coffee and chocolate: In one hand that is great the lump turn out to be benign very common problem in women some claimed could be related to caffeine intake and some advised patient to take combination of vitamin e and Ibuprofen to minimize the symptoms
 
the important part that in these days they perform more additional studies on the specimen to make sure that this kind  are not premalignant your surgeon should know.

how is a biopsy taken of a palpable breast lump if it doesn't show up in ultrasound or mammogram? wondering how they accurately guide the needle?

Lump biopsy: They do it the old fashioned way, before we had ultrasound to guide us. They palpate the lump and guide the needle in that way to get a biopsy specimen. It works !

2.4cm breast lump irregular, hypoechoic heterogeneous lesion. getting biopsy. is there anything other than cancer with that description it could be?

It can still be beni: There is a fairly high chance of this one being cancer but not 100 percent. It can still be benign, so wait to worry till the biopsy results become available.Good luck.

is it possible to mistake a breast lump for fat necrosis while it actually is a carcinoma? i know clinically it looks like each other but can imaging or biopsy make the right diagnosis?

Breast biopsy can: The 'gold standard" for diagnosing breast cancer is still a breast biopsy of suspicious areas  and not "imaging". It is always best to have an actual portion of tissue for the Pathologist to "see" the cancer cells if present.

left breast lump found on bse; had mammogram followed by u/s. complex cyst w/debri (5mm) identified. told to have repeat mammogram in 1 year but how do i know for sure the "debri" isn't worrisome? should i get 2nd opinion or request biopsy?

Breast cyst.: Given that your age does put you at risk for breast cancer, unfortunately, with or without a family history of such, a second opinion wouldn't hurt.  Complex cysts are a bit more worrisome than simple cysts as they have some contents.  I wouldn't panic right now, but a second opinion or a breast MRI wouldn't be a bad idea.
