my 13 year old slept wrong, now the right side of his neck hurts. he can't turn his head right to good. can he take aleve and then advil? and if so how many hours should he wait in between?

: If you can see your physician. If you cannot, do some heat on the site and back of the neck. Supplement that with aleve or Advil. Not both.

YES: however, I would never ignore neck pain: it could be muscular, inflammatory, nerver issues, infection or just a low grade viral infection. Never ignore these symptoms. Get checked today.

Could mechanical: Problem with rotation of cervical vertebrae in one direction with associated muscle spasms on the opposite side. It could also be a disk problem, but much less likely if you don't have shooting pain to the fingers on either arm. See an osteopathic doctor for a detailed physical exam on the range of motion of individual neck vertebrae as well as for imaging and a diagnosis.

Sprain vs. Fracture: If, as you say, you didn't hit the wall very hard, it is more likely a sprain/strain of your neck from muscle spasm your neck muscles did to "protect" your spine. It's like "whiplash" in an automobile accident. If the neck really hurts a doctor will want to get a series of neck spine x-rays to make sure there are no cracks (fractures.) you have to decide what it will take to manage the panic.

Head: Held up by neck. Head is hard, but internal superficial bleed  possible. Neck blunt or crashing injury can  strain spinal cord or exiting nerves. Always serious injury, recommend go be evaluated.

Neck spasm: As long as you haven't had a recent injury, you probably have a muscle spasm in your neck if you have developed sudden neck pain worsened by movement. See a doctor if the pain doesn't improve in a few days or if you have headache, dizziness, numbness of the arms, visual or speech changes.

Ouch: Well hopefully that will go away on its own. Light stretching and a heating pad with an automatic shut off switch might help. If it doesn't  get better with conservative therapy see somebody.

Journal to see: if there are particular behaviors that you engage in around that time - or it could be the result of a continuous behavior. For instance - if you look down at a keyboard all day - it may start hurting at that time. Or if you stop your job around that time, it may allow you to focus on physical sensations.
