is it normal to have nausea after hernia surgery?

Accepted Answer

Nausea is common-: -after any surgery involving general anesthesia. It usually follows that those that have it get it always. Myself have never been nauseated after about 10 procedures with gen anesthesia.

NO to your doctor: You go to emergency room if it is emergency, if unable to push the hernia inside, other wise go to your doctor  , will check , if it is  get it repaired.

had successful morgagni-hernia surgery. part of colon was in my right-chest. seroma formed after. now i have chronic nausea, regurgitation, gerd. why?

Post surgery: Although you considered the surgery successful, it appears that your symptoms, if they weren't present posoperatively, are related to some degree of diaphragm laxity allowing reflux and regurgitation. I feel that collaboration between the surgeon and a gastroenterologist will be required to figure out the cause of your symptoms and a treatment plan.

Not good: If your tongue swells to the point that you can no longer breathe you will be in severe danger.  Burning can be B vitamin deficiency, lifelong heavy alcohol abuse, thyroid problems, uremia from kidney failure, liver failure. Heavy meatal poisoning. Along with the vomiting, this sounds serious, see a doctor immediately. What if you suddenly can't breathe? is it worth delaying?

After surgery...: If the surgery was just recent and you cannot pass gas at all and in pain you need to go to the emergency room right now. This could be something very dangerous and without directly giving you an exam I cannot make a guess. Don't wait please, go right away.

If only 2 days post: Op, ; with no pain, just a couple of days more ambulate if you can- my spouse was actually laid up for over a week with post op symptoms.

It can relieve pain: It can relieve pain and discomfort.  It can prevent obstruction if you have a strangulation.  There are different types of hernias.  Sometimes in the groin sometimes in the abdomen Sometimes within the abdomen.  A lot depends on the type of hernia that you have.  If your doctor recommends surgery, it can help make you feel better but it can limit your activities for up to 6 weeks.

Hernia recurrence: First and foremost, a prior hernia repair is unlikely to interfere with your pregnancy or delivery.  However, the location of the hernia and the method of repair may have some impact if mesh was used and a c-section is necessary.  Be sure and review this information with your obstetrician early in your pregnancy.

Usually: The abdomen and site of the hernia have to be exposed to fix the hernia.  The breasts and genital organs can usually remain covered.  Feel free to discuss this with your surgeon, anethesiologist, and nurses so that you can feel comfortable knowing that they will protect your dignity to the fullest extent.

Surgery: Unfortunately, there are not too many options for treatment of hernias other than surgery.  Hernia recurrences are the most common complication after hernia surgery.  While the second operation may be more complex, there have been many innovations developed over the last decade that may not have been available at the time of the first hernia surgery.
