: Irregular astigmatism can cause this. Glaucoma may not cause symptoms but halos around lights,blurred vision,eye pain or redness,headache are some symptoms. It's important to have her ophthalmologist examine her for accurate diagnosis, advice and peace of mind. Eye pressures will be checked.

: You should see your eye doctor and have this discomfort evaluated. Your eye pressures can be checked so that glaucoma can be ruled out. Then, your eye doctor can diagnose what the discomfort is from and treat it, if needed. Good luck!

Glaucoma : Glaucoma does not necessarily preclude you from having lasik or another type of vision correction for myopia.  Advanced surface ablation prk or phakic iol could also be acceptable alternative methods of correction for your myopia.  There have been reported cases of further loss of visual field after lasik surgery in patients who have glaucoma or other optic nerve disease, but this is rare.  The decision should be made based on the severity of your glaucoma.  The other vision correction options listed above have risk of increased eye pressure postoperatively because of the steroid drops used to help the healing process.  Pressure will have to be monitored closed after surface ablation, prk, or phakic iol.  Additional pressure drops may be needed temporarily after these procedures if the eye pressure goes up.

i read that hydrochlorothiazide diuretic for blood pressure can cause eye problems (blurred vision, myopia, glaucoma). why does that happen and do angiotensin recptor blockers affect the eyes too?

: HCTH can cause dry eye. Any eye problem related to ARB is rare. Remember any medication can conceivably cause any side effects. But medications are approved only after determining that they are relatively safe and do not often do so. and their major side effects are listed so the prescriber is aware of them

: Very unlikely to develop glaucoma at your age.  There is no known lifestyle option to lower the risk although yours is slightly above average since your Mom developed glaucoma (unless hers was due to trauma?). You best option is regular ophthalmological examinations yearly to have your eyes checked for glaucoma.

Common ones: Are very thin corneas, high intraocular pressure, unusual or asymmetric optic nerve heads, pigment dispersion syndrome, pseudoexfoliation syndrome,  strong family history of glaucoma, history of significant trauma to the eyes, narrow anatomic angles, chronic use of steroids...

SLT Laser: Slt laser (selective laser trabeculoplasty) can be used as the initial treatment for many types of open angle glaucoma (including glaucoma suspect) if your ophthalmologist and you prefer not to try drops/medication. Slt is very effective at lowering eye pressure in many patients, the effect can last for years, and it can be repeated in the future.

Glaucoma: Glaucome is a contidion of raised intra-ocular pressure usally treated by eye drops rx'd by your treating ophthalmologist. In some rare occassions you may have narrow angle closure which is treated surgically. Pls d/w your eye md.
