If you have: No chronic illness, and the injury is in an area with good blood flow, you clean it daily keep it moist and protected from repeat injury and it is less than 5 sq. Centimeters in  area it should be well on it's way within 2 weeks.

Moist: Historically wounds were treated with goal of keeping wound dry.  Today we know that keeping a wound moist will allow it to heal better with less chance of scarring

Scab: The development of a scab is not helpful for wounds to heal. It is best to use vaseline of aquaphor on a wound to allow it to heal faster. A scab is like a brick wall to your surrounding normal skin. The skin cells have to secrete substances to break down the scab.

Will not go away: If this scar is deep it will probably not go away. You could see a plastic surgeon or a dermatologic surgeon to discuss your options.

Monitor the wound: Watch for signs of infection such as increased redness, pain, or drainage. If any of those occur see your doctor.

14 days past tonsillectomy. still seem to have very thick scabs covering about half of each wound. normal/common? when is the latest they should fall off? should i expect more increase in pain when they do? what is the chance of bleeding?

Otolaryngologist: I don't see anything unusual here, but I think you should ask your Otolaryngologist this question as he/she may want to check your throat. I wouldn't expect an increase in pain now but slight bleeding can occur.  The Otolaryngologist can answer your questions best.

Scars: One of the best ways to avoid scarring is to refrain from deroofing it.

after applying mupirocin for my impetigo condition, scabs form up at the sides of the wound. should i pick this scab?

No!: Leave the scabs alone :)  They will fall off in due time when they are ready.  Picking at the wound is just a great way to reinfect the area and leave scars.
